American Envoy Meets Prachanda

On October 28, 2009, Acting American Ambassador to Nepal Jeffrey Moon went to meet the Chairman of United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) Prachanda at his Nayabazzar residence in Kathmandu and made enquiries concerning the nature of the movement the UCPN-Maoist is launching, writing a new constitution, peace process and integration of combatants with the Nepal Army according to the Chief of Foreign Department of the UCPN-Maoist, Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

Chairman Prachanda has repeated his commitment to the peace process, writing a new constitution and integrating the combatants with the Nepal Army. He has also informed the American envoy that his party would try to reach consensus politics with other political parties as much as possible but the UCPN-Maoist will be forced to launch the movement if the government does not honor its proposal.
