Anti-terror Training Center In Bangladesh

October 21, 2010: The European Union is set to open a counter-terrorism training center in Bangladesh for providing police and other law enforcement officials from across South Asia with the training on how to combat terrorism. The European envoy has said that India and Pakistan have agreed on setting up the center in Bangladesh, the IANS reports.

This center will be the second of this kind in the region after the one in Indonesia. It will start off providing training early next year. Counter-terrorism-expert trainers from European countries, the US and Canada will provide investigators, police and intelligence officials from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Myanmar and other countries in the region with the training.

The European envoy has said that the European Union has chosen Bangladesh for this regional center taking into accounts of its strong commitment to eliminate all sorts of terrorism, and its support for the EU causes in the international arena including the UN. The European Union will provide the center with 1.5 million euros.
