On June 21, 2009, at the tea reception held in honor of the newly elected Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party leader at his residence, Maharajgunj, NC President Girija Prasad Koirala has said that from now on the era of youth leadership has started in the NC, and has advised the newly elected parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel to work on the consensus politics. NC President Koirala also has said that he will not be involved in the active politics due to the age and health but will support the party leadership.

On June 21, 2009, before returning to home country after completing the two-day Nepal visit, speaking to the reporters, Indian Foreign Secretary Shivashanker Menon has said that Nepal and India have no dispute over the border but have dispute only over the border management. Indian Secretary has visited Nepal after the Nepalese Constituent Assembly committee and parliamentary committee have visited the border areas in the western Nepal and found that the Indian Border Security has driven the Nepalis from their homes living in the Nepalese territory and they have misbehaved the Nepalis, and encroached on the Nepalese territory.

On June 22, 2009, the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ has reported that the local Maoists have captured 141 bighas land belonging to Surendra Agrahari in Chitahama, Sunsari district, Eastern Nepal.

The United Democratic Madheshi Front has not been able to select their representatives to join the Madhav Nepal’s government, as they have been squabbling over the selection of candidates for the ministerial portfolios.

The Maoist members of the parliament have continued to block the parliamentary session demanding the correction of the unconstitutional step of the ceremonial President. It has been more than three weeks since they have been doing so.

On June 21, 2009, following their program on protesting against the unconstitutional step of the ceremonial President; the Maoist cadres have staged sit-ins at the government offices in Kathmandu and at all district headquarters for two hours disrupting the state administration and causing traffic disorder, too in Kathmandu.

June 22, 2009, monsoon rains have not started in Nepal, yet. It may come in the mid of this week. At the same time, most of the crops such as millet and maize have been dried up. The production of these crops may reduce to a half this year due to the dry spell. These are two main hill crops in Nepal. Lack of rains in time may invite food shortage in the hills of Nepal this year.
