Chairman Regmi Visited Flood-hit Areas

June 21, 2013: as the weather eased, Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi took a helicopter and flew the flood-hit areas in the far western region particularly the Darchula area to see the damage done to the area and the people. He took the stock of the damages done to the area and the people. A bunch of ministers, and high-level government officials accompanied him on a helicopter flight to the flood-damaged areas. It might be once in a lifetime chance for some of them to fly on a helicopter.

 

Most of the people, Chairman Regime talked to, complained that the government had been lukewarm to provide the victims of the floods with relief materials particularly the immediate relief materials required such as food and shelter. In absence of the government’s immediate support for the victims, most of the victims needed to spend nights under the pouring rains.

 

Speaking at the news conference held at Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, after the inspection of the flood-hit areas such as Darchula, Kanchanpur, Kailali and Bardiya, Chairman of IECM Regmi announced that each of the families of flood victims and people became homeless due to the floods would be provided with Rs. 35,000, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.

 

The floods in the Mahakali River on June 16 had swept away 109 houses including 13 government buildings, and led 350 families homeless. However, the government has not been able to ascertain the loss of human lives and properties, yet for providing relief to the victims.
