Combatants Registering For Integration Reduced Considerably

April 16, 2012: the number of combatants choosing for joining the Nepal Army has reduced considerably and it might fall to around 5,000 well below the agreed number of 6,500 because of the party order and the self-esteem of combatants.
Coordinator of the Secretariat of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) Balananda Sharma yesterday said that the number of PLA members willing to join the Nepal Army (NA) would come down to 5,000 because of the attraction for cash award for retirement, internal disharmony in the PLA, education qualification and the age, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
However, the combatants have different stories to tell. Some of the stories published in ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today are as follow. Combatants previously opted for integration have now been disappointed due to the agreement on integration. "I have opted for retirement because an agreement has been made damaging the reputation of the decade long people’s war that we fought for," Chhiring Tamang, platoon commander of the Pratap Memorial Brigade of the PLA, said. Tamang had previously registered his name for integration.
Resham Tamang, another combatant from Sindhupalchowk said, "Instead of joining the NA with feeling of humiliation, I have opted for retirement and leading a family life." This is the story of a combatant opting for retirement. Combatants opted for integration expressed their apprehension that they might be ill treated in the NA and said, "We have opted for integration just to obey party decision, not because we want to get integrated."
