Constituent Assembly Session and Prime Minister’s Visit

The President has called the session of the Constituent Assembly starting on September 5, 2008. Probably, the President might read out polices and programs of the government if the government would follow the tradition of reading out the policies and program to the legislative members. The Finance Minister is set to present the budget for the fiscal year 2008 (2065) to the Constituent Assembly on September 8. Finance Minister Baburam Bhattarai has said in public on a number of occasions that his budget would be people-oriented and would focus on alleviating the economic miseries of the Nepalese people.

Prime Minister Prachanda is going to India on September 14, 2008 for a three-day visit. He might talk with his Indian counterpart and other leaders about the review and renegotiation of a number of treaties Nepal had with India, in addition to talking about the boosting of friendship between Nepal and India and possible Indian assistance to Nepal.
