May 12, 2012: political parties and even common folks have been successfully enforcing the shutdowns intimidating the people to damage their properties and even lives if they defy their call for shutdowns. Thus the people have been the victims of the politics in transition. Common people have to bear the cost of the shutdowns.
The economy has suffered a net loss in output of well over Rs 4.50 billion due to the two-day shutdown, said Pashupati Murarka, Vice-president of Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) referring to the latest industrial output data of Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), myrepublica.com reports today.
The Bramhin-Chhetri group has called the shutdown of entire business in Nepal for two days starting off on Thursday disrupting the lives of common folks and regular businesses of the people.
In a statement FNCCI has appealed the protesting groups calling for shutdowns in protests to follow values and norms of democracy in protesting against anything they dislike respecting the rights of other people to do their regular businesses for livelihood, and urged the government to hold the people forcibly closing the businesses and causing the damages to the properties accountable for their misdeeds and bring them to justice accordingly.
In a number of places such as Bhaktapur and Kirtipur, the locals have come forward against the Brahmin-Chhetri group’s call for shutdown.
