Delay In Printing Machine-readable Passports

February 16, 2010: the legislative Public Account Committee (PAC) has interrogated Deputy Prime Minister with the portfolio of foreign affairs Sujata Koirala concerning the delay in printing machine-readable passports on February 14, 2010.
The UN International Civil Aviation Organization has set April 1, 2010 deadline for issuing machine-readable passports. The traditional passports issued after April 1 will not be valid for the international travel; so, the PAC has taken up this issue seriously with Deputy Prime Minister Koirala.
Responding to the questions of the legislators, Madam Koirala has said that her ministry has cancelled all the bids for printing machine-readable passports after the receipt of the Indian offer for printing such passports; the cabinet will soon make a decision on it. She has also assured the legislators of making machine-readable passports available by the deadline set buy the UN International Civil Aviation Organization.
