Directorate Of Professionals For Lumbini Development

October 18, 2011: the cabinet meeting held yesterday has decided to set up a Lumbini Development National Directorate over which former Prime Minister Prachanda will preside according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today.
Lumbini is the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Most often than not India has created controversy over where Lord Buddha was born. India has even publicized that Lord Buddha was born there. So, such a directorate is a necessity to make it clear where Lord Buddha was actually born.
The term of the office bears of the directorate will be for five years and the government might add another 11 members to the committee. Spokesman for the government Narayankaji Shrestha has said that the government has set up the directorate to intensify the development of Lumbini. Spokesman Shrestha also has said that the government would include other districts such as Rupandehi, Kapilbastu and Nawalparasi in the master plan of Lumbini Development and develop Lumbini as the international peace city.
The cabinet meeting also has decided to mark the year of 2012 as a ‘Visit Lumbini Year’. Spokesman Shrestha has said that the cabinet has decided to mark VLY-2012 to make the world know the importance of Lumbini, to attract tourists from around the world and to draw the world’s attention on the development of the historical and religious site such as Limbini.
