Foreign Employment Causing Family Breakdown

May 9, 2012: speaking at the interaction event in Bharatpur, Chitwan yesterday, participants in the event have warned of the breakdown of families would be quite high in future if the current trend of family breakdown caused by separation of husbands and wives due to working in middle east and east Asia continues according to the news posted on ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today. 

Judges have said that majority of the divorce cases in the courts is of the nature of separation of husbands and wives for a long time due to working in the Middle East or East Asia. Foreign employment will invite many social problems in the country if the current trend of the family breakdown continues.

Similarly, police officers have said that extramarital affairs of spouses have increased due to the partners going to the foreign employment. During the raids at different hotels and restaurants in Chitwan, the police have found that wives of the husbands working abroad were mostly the women involved in illicit activities.

Woman Advocate Phool Maya Ranabhat has said that in some cases wives might be involved in extramarital affairs in many cases wives are often suspected of having extra marital affairs while the husbands are away.

Foreign employment has earned not only huge foreign currencies but also significant amount of national income, as the Nepalis working abroad remit billions of dollars to Nepal. The amount has reached to the 25% of the national income.
