Government Ignoring Court Orders: Chief Justice

Issue 51, December 19, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 18, 2010: speaking at the talk program on ‘Good Governance and Justice’ jointly held by the Office of Prime Minister and Administrative Court in Lalitpur, on December 17, 2010, Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Nepal Ram Prasad Shrestha has said that the government has not been serious about enforcing the court orders and rulings causing the failure of the rule of law in Nepal, the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 18, 2010 reports.

‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes the Chief Justice, "It is the responsibility of the executive to implement the court’s directive order relating to the matter of public concern and legitimacy of laws but it is not aware about this fact. I urge the top bureaucrats to make their decisions legal, transparent and accountable. Until corruption is rooted out and zero corruption tolerance is created in the society, no efforts would be effective in regards to maintaining good governance and delivering justice no matter which political system the nation practices."
