Information On Combatants

Issue 11, March 14, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

March 13, 2010: the spokesman for the Government of Madhav Nepal has said that the integration, management and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants would be difficult if the government did not get the actual number and other details of the combatants from the UNMIN according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of March 13, 2010. The spokesman has also alleged that the UNMIN has refused to cooperate with the government providing the details of the Maoist combatants.

However, visiting UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe said, "It is totally wrong to say that there’s non-cooperation. The UNMIN mandate is limited to giving information that is provided by each side. That’s what we can do. UNMIN has no authority to provide the government with the information it has sought.”
