Initiatives To Lift Ban On Flying Nepalese Aircrafts In European Airspace

Issue 50, December 15, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 9, 2013: the European Economic Chamber-Nepal said that it would take initiative to resolve problems of the European Union banning the aircrafts registered in Nepal flying in the European airspace. At the news conference held in Kathmandu yesterday, Chamber Chairman Binayak Shah said the Chamber working with the government and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) would urge the European countries to remove Nepal from the safety black list, as Nepal committed to correct technical and physical weaknesses seen in the air safety, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

Shah said that there was a large-scale investment of the private companies in the airlines business and added that there would be the negative impact on the tourism business of Nepal from the decision of the European Commission (EC) to ban Nepalese aircrafts to fly in the European airspace. He said that the private sector was disappointed from the decision made at a short notice though an agreement had reached on giving a chance to Nepal for correcting the safety weaknesses within six months.

Shah said that the decision of the EU would make no impact on the Turkey Airlines, which started its service recently in Nepal.
