International Federation of Journalists Calls For Release Of Nepalese Journalists

March 2, 2011: in a press release posted on Scoop.co.nz today, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has called for the immediate release of two journalists Ram Pukar Raut and Pravin Sharma Jha, the local administration has arrested in Rautahat district of eastern plains (Terai) of Nepal on February 24, 2001.

According to the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), the local administration has arrested the two journalists falsely charging them, as they have been publishing a series of articles exposing the corruption in the local administration, and exposing the local police involvement in smuggling activities.

The local administration has falsely charged the two-arrested journalists with having the illegal link to a banned underground-armed group operating in the Terai for publishing its statement in their newspapers.
