Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister In Kathmandu

April 30, 2012: Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba arrived at Kathmandu yesterday on a two-day visit to Nepal. Foreign Minister Koichiro called on President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and top leaders of different political parties and discussed the peace process and constitution writing, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
Koichiro called on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at the Presidential Office at Sital Niwas. During the meeting, President Dr. Yadav appreciated the friendly relations between the two countries. Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro said that his government was ready to provide Nepal with its support for development projects.
Similarly, Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro called on Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai at the latter’s office. Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai appreciated the Japan’s support for the Nepal’s development efforts and urged the minister to continue support in the days to come.
The Prime Minister has told the Japanese foreign minister that the peace process and the constitution writing are at the final stage; Nepal will focus its attention on economic development efforts after the peace process and constitution writing completes according to the prime minister’s press advisor.
In addition, Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro met with the top leaders of political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and MPRF-D.
Meanwhile, Nepal-Japan foreign-minister-level meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Singha Durbar yesterday. The two countries reached a deal on Japan providing Nepal with the grant assistance of Rs. 259 million to increase food production in Nepal. Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kunio Takahasi and Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota signed off the deal in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs of both the countries.
