Lawyers For Not Rule Of law

Issue 39, September 23, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 21, 2012: Judicial Council has set the criteria for appointing judges to various law courts. Some of the criteria disqualify the lawyers that have the record of the contempt of court and tax evasion. However, representatives of the Nepal Bar Association calling on Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi expressed their discontent with the new norms the Judicial Council has set for appointing judges, according to ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’.

The irony is that the Nepalese legal professionals supposed to fight for the rule of law have been against the rule of law protesting against the criteria that disqualified the legal professional having the criminal records of tax evasion and contempt of court. Most probably, Nepalese legal professional don’t think that evading tax is not a criminal act. Anybody could land in a jail for the contempt of court and for evading taxes following the rule of law. Thus, Nepalese legal professionals are not for the rule of law but the rule of criminals.
