May 28: National Republic Day In Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter
June 1, 2013: the government of Nepal has declared that May 28 as the national republic day rather than Jestha 15 to make it clear to the foreign dignitaries, as they have been in confusion when to congratulate the Nepalese dignitaries on the occasion of the Republic Day in Nepal, according to the news aired by the Nepal Radio at 7:00 am today.
The Jestha 15 in the Vikram calendar adopted by the despotic rulers in the past not always coincides with the day in the Gregorian calendar. So, members of the diplomatic missions in Kathmandu, and foreign heads of state, and prime ministers have been in confusion on what day the celebration of the Republic Day in Nepal would be held. In order to avoid this confusion, the government of Nepal has adopted May 28 the Republic Day. This is a first step toward adopting the Gregorian calendar.
Nepal needs to adopt the Gregorian calendar as all the nations in the world use it, and to avoid the confusion of date while dealing with the foreign companies and missions, and to make Nepalis also easy to follow a single calendar rather than using two calendars: Vikram and Gregorian.
