Media Campaign Against Indian Company In Nepal

Issue 36, September 05, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 31, 2010: instead of holding an investigation into the media report on the sub-standard products of the Dabur company in Nepal, Minister for Commerce and Industry Rajendra Mahato has strongly adversely reacted to the Nepal media stating such media reports go against the interest of the country. As a minister Mr. Mahato needs to order an investigation into the substandard products of Dabur Company and if it is true, he needs to force the concerned company to recall all such products from the market for the protection of the consumers. However, Minster Mahato is for protecting the company that has allegedly produced products that are not fit for human consumption.

The concerned Indian company working in Nepal has complained to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu stating the media people have asked them for advertisements but the company refused; so they have engaged in the smear campaign against the company.

The Indian embassy in Kathmandu has issued a statement in favor of the company the Nepali media have alleged to producing substandard products, and has said that the Indian company has been producing high standard products but has not mentioned which laboratory has certified such products. The Indian embassy has even hoped to take strong actions against the unethical practices of the Nepalese media but the embassy has forgotten its own ethics to hold an investigation into the products before making any comments on the Nepalese media based on the allegation made by the unscrupulous Indian company working in Nepal.

Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has strongly reacted to the statements of the Indian Embassy that has accused the Nepali media of being unethical for reporting the quality of products the Indian company working in Nepal has produced, and has disagreed on the Indian embassy statement.

The Nepalese media have been reporting what they have seen and found. They have the duty to report to the people on the matters concerned to the people. However, the Nepalese Minister, the Indian company and the Indian embassy in Nepal have been against the people stating the allegedly substandard products as the high quality products.
