Meeting Between UCPN-Maoist And NC Leaders

Issue 30, July 24, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 21, 2011: a meeting of the leaders of UCPN-Maoist and NC has been held yesterday to build a consensus on many contentious issues. Both the parties believe that they would not be able to complete the peace process and the writing of a new constitution without building a consensus on these issues.

Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has gone to meet the ailing NC President Sushil Koirala at the residence of Koirala on July 19, 2011, and they have agreed to enforce the five-point deal.

The meeting of the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist and NC held yesterday must be the follow-on meeting of the meeting Prachanda has held with Sushil. This meeting is a good sign of the leaders of the two major political parties getting together and hammering out a consensus on contentious issues. No alternatives to coming closer of these two parties are available at the current political situation in Nepal, political pundits say.

Sushil have been in USA for medical check-ups but he has returned with some ailments and has been housebound. So, he could not participate in the meeting of the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist and NC held yesterday.
