Muslims Breaking Buddhist And Hindu Temples
By KTM Metro Reporter
October 1, 2012: Members of the Buddhist minority in the Cox's Bazar area in the southeast of Bangladesh said unidentified people were bent on upsetting peaceful relations between Muslims and Buddhists. Hundreds of Muslims burned at least four Buddhist temples and 15 homes of Buddhists on Sunday after complaining that a Buddhist man had insulted Islam, police and residents said, writes ‘The Himalayan Times’ quoting Reuters. The protestors had said that a Buddhist had posted a picture denigrating Islam on the Facebook.
Recently, a Pakistani Imam had shoved some burnt sheets of Koran in a bag of mentally disoriented 14-year old girl in the hope of chasing away Christians from the area but he got caught and charged for blasphemy. In the case of the Buddhist posting a picture denigrating Islam on Facebook might be for the same reason for driving away Buddhists from the area.
Pakistani police said that they registered a blasphemy case against nine Muslims suspected of attacking a Hindu temple. Police officer Mohammad Hanif said that Muslims protesting an anti-Islam film on Sept. 21 ransacked the Sri Krishna Ram temple in a Hindu neighborhood on the outskirts of the southern city of Karachi. They allegedly broke Hindu statues, damaged a holy book and beat the custodian. A cleric is among the suspects, but none had been arrested as of Sunday. The case is fairly unusual — Pakistan's harsh blasphemy laws are more often invoked against alleged insults to Islam, not minority faiths, writes ‘The Himalayan Times’ quoting ‘ASSOCIATED PRESS.’
