September 20, 2012: Nepal ranks 110th in the economic freedom, China 107th and India 111th according to the annual report 'Economic Freedom of the World: 2012' published by the Fraser Institute of Canada. Nepal has clearly made a progress in liberalizing its economy even putting it ahead of India. However, that is not enough to attract investment.

Indicators used in measuring the economic freedom of a country are the size of the government, access to sound money, freedom to trade internationally, the legal system and property rights and regulation of credit, labor and business, according to the news posted on nepalnews.com.

Hong Kong ranks the highest level of economic freedom worldwide scoring 8.90 out of 10, United States 18th, Japan 20th, China 107th and India 111th. Nepal has scored 6.33 out of 10 placing it at 110th position among the 144 countries. Venezuela scored the lowest marks putting it at the bottom level of economic freedom among the 144 countries.
