Power-cut And NEA’s Negligence

Issue 52, December 27, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

December 22, 2009: the government-run media have reported that the main reason for the power-cut has been the negligence of the government-owned power company called Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in repairing power-producing machine. A case in point is the NEA has not repaired the power-producing machine broken at Kulekhani Power Plant about one and a half years ago. This is the only one example of the negligence of the NEA in repairing and maintaining power plants across the country.

This is how NEA and its boss Minister for Energy Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat working in tandem. The Minister has been saying that the power-cut will not be more than 10 hours a week in this year but doing nothing except for going to Copenhagen in the name of participating in the global summit on climate change at the huge cost to the nation making the current power-cut 28 hours a week. He has also said that he is working for importing power from India, and rehabilitating thermal plants and even building new ones for mitigating power-cut but nothing has happened so far.
