Prachanda’s Explanations and UCPN-Maoist’s Movement Program

Issue 06, February 7, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On February 4, 2010, speaking to the reporters after the standing committee meeting of the UCPN-Maoist at the Parisdanda party office in Kotesvore, Kathmandu, Chairman Prachanda has said that the media reports on proposing Girija Prasad Koirala for the position of Prime Minister is false and imaginary; if the unconstitutional move of the President on directly writing a letter to the then army chief is corrected then a national government would be formed under his leadership.

He has also said that if all political parties work on the consensus politics then a new constitution would be promulgated on May 28, 2010 as scheduled; the media report on the possible extreme political situation if a new constitution is not promulgated on time is not correct, all political parties will put all efforts on promulgating a new constitution on time.

He has also said that the integration of the People’s Liberation Army into the Nepal Army is the part of the peace process; so writing of a new constitution only after emptying the cantonments of the People’s Liberation Army is the conspiracy against the peace process; the army integration will be appropriate only after the promulgation of a new constitution, restructuring of the state and formulation of a clear security policy.

At the same time, the UCPN-Maoist has made public its movement program on creating political awareness among the people for the coming months. The movement starts on February 13 and ends on April 6, 2010 according to the program. Following the program, the UCPN-Maoist will celebrate the anniversary of the People’s War on February 13, celebrate a martyr’s week from February 26 to March 5, celebrate Working Women’s Day on March 8, celebrate a cultural Day on March 18, and celebrate the historical People’s Movement on April 6, 2010 according to the news report published in the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of February 5, 2010.
