October 22, 2013: speaking at the opening ceremony of the sixth world conference of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Kathmandu yesterday, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has urged the Non-Resident Nepalis residing across the world not to forget their responsibilities towards their native land. The President urged the NRNs to mobilize their economic, commercial and intellectual capital for the development of their native land, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

Although NRNs have been successful in gaining education and trade and maintaining their image abroad, time has come now for them to do something for the progress and prosperity of the native country and for making contribution to its socio-economic development of the motherland, the president said.

Delivering the welcome speech, World Conference High Level Organizing Committee Coordinator also the Foreign Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire has said that the Government of Nepal is serious about the utilization of skills, knowledge, experiences and capital of NRNs for the development of Nepal. The minister also has said that the government has recognized the NRN campaign, guaranteed facilities and services to them and made efforts to ensure their easy movement to and from Nepal and stay in Nepal.

An advisory board has been set up with the NRNs on it to give feedbacks to the government for promoting NRNs’ investments in Nepal, and for maintaining the smooth relationship between them and the government; the issues of NRNs are the top priorities of the government, the minister said.

Minister Ghimire presented the certificate of the registration of NRNA at the foreign ministry to the founding President Upendra Mahato, former President Jeeba Lamichhane and newly elected President Shesh Ghale jointly. The NRNA was established some ten years ago and its registration at the Foreign Ministry was pending due to various reasons. A meeting of the Council of Ministers Sunday decided to register the association at the Foreign Ministry, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

The Sixth Global General Convention of the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) in Kathmandu has elected Australia-based entrepreneur Shesh Ghale as its Chairperson for the next two years. Shesh Ghale won the election for the top job of the organization of Nepali Diaspora securing 510 votes against 280 by his rival Tenzi Sherpa, according to the results of the vote count announced late evening on Monday, the RSS news says.
