Prime Minister Spending Quiet Friday Night At Freed-Kamaiya Camp

Issue 50, December 9, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 6, 2012: after the NC nominee Sushil Koirala for prime minister failed to receive the endorsement from the ruling coalition for his coronation, the political heat has subsided today to some extent, it would be few more days before it takes up again, so Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai could spend the Friday night quietly at the camp made for the freed Kamaiyas: bonded laborers in Bijayanagar, Tikapur, western Nepal.

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has made to sleep over with one of the rural families once a month. This time, he chose to spend a night with the family of freed Kamaiyas, and dine with them after attending an official function to be held at a nearby area. This practice is for keeping a contact with the grassroots people.

According to the Tikapur reporter of the ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’ a freed Kamaiya named Baburam Chaudhary living in a camp in Bijayanagar, Tikapur, is preparing to welcome Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Friday night.

For the rural people, the prime minister’s visit becomes a bit of festival but it might cost a fortune to the concerned household. After the news report on the bankruptcy of the family receiving the prime minister for a night, the prime minister has started off footing the bill of the cost of his stay with a family. Spending a few thousand Nepalese rupees on receiving the high profile guest might be the loss of the whole family fortune for the rural households in Nepal.
