Private School Operators Not For Following The Government Directives
By KTM Metro Reporter
March 12, 2013: the Private And Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) has said that it is not going to follow the Institutional Schools Operational Standard Directives of 2069 (2013) issued by the Ministry of Education one month ago stating that the Ministry has failed in incorporating the suggestions made by the PABSON in the directives. However, the Ministry officials have said that they have included all the suggestions the private school operators have made, and even sent the draft of the directives to them for their approval, and then only, the government has ratified it. So, the government would take strong actions against those not following the directives, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.
After small and middle class schools across the country objected to the several points of directives and warned the PABSON of launching a protest against the PABSON central level officials for making the agreement, the PABSON central level committee yesterday took the U-turn and said that they were against the directives. Chairman of the PABSON Baburam Pokharel said that they had agreed to the directives under the condition that some objectionable points in the directives would be amended prior to the issuance of the directives. The PABSON objected to the provision that the private schools operating without having basic infrastructure would be closed, if the owners of these schools were not to follow the government proposed merger with other schools. The PABSON also objected to the provision that every private school must have at least 22 students in each class, must provide scholarship transparently, and should have their own building, library, toilet and other infrastructure, according to the ‘gorkahaptraonline.com’ news of today.
However, the Guardian Association Nepal has strongly supported the government directives. It has staged a protest against the PABSON at its central office for objecting to the directives yesterday. Chairman of Guardian Association Suprabhat Bhandari said that if the private schools were not to follow the directives, his association would launch a strong protest, according to the ‘gorkahaptraonline.com’ news of today.
