Review Of Human Rights Situation In Nepal

January 12, 2011: the review of human rights situation in Nepal is going to be held at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, as the part of the Universal Periodical Review of human rights situation.
The Madhav-led government has set up a 11-member government team headed by Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala with the three members from the Office of Prime Minister, secretary to the Health Ministry, joint secretaries to the Foreign Ministry, Law Ministry, Peace and Reconstruction Ministry, Local Development Ministry, Education Department, and the Nepali Ambassador to Switzerland as the members of the team but none of the most relevant Home Ministry and police offices that need to be aware of what the human rights are excluded from the team, ‘Himalayan News Service’ writes today. A dozen of representatives of NGOs and INGOs and seven participants from National Human Rights Commission, Women’s Commission, and National Dalit Commission are also participating in the ‘review seminar’ in Geneva.
The Madhav-led government has promoted the army man involved in grossly violating human rights violation to the second-in-command of the Nepal Army and covered up the army man wanted by the Kavre District Court for killing a minor and has not turned him over to the civil court for bringing him to justice.
