Rotting Goods Of Tens Of Millions Of Rupees At Customs
By KTM Metro Reporter
December 3, 2013: Goods worth tens of millions of rupees has been lying at the customs office idle, and could not be sold by auctions because of the police valuing the goods very high, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
The goods were not auctioned and are rotting because of the high valuation done by the police for submitting to the Customs Office after seizing them at various places of the district when attempting to smuggle in evading the customs.
Chief of Birgunj Customs Office Ram Hari Aryal said that the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have mentioned selling price of the goods submitted at the Customs at the 40 percent than the whole sale price, and could not be auctioned and goods worth over 30 million rupees including betel nuts, sukumel, biscuits and rajani gandha among others have been left in the open.
No one agrees to accept it at the auctions because of high evaluation even if auctions called time and again, said one contractor Jokhu Saha Teli of Birgunj.
The police have neglected the written agreement made on the District Security Committee on doing the evaluation by coordinating with the Customs Office where the goods were taken under control.
