Issue 19, May 12, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 9, 2013: talking to reporters in Biratnagar of the Morang district yesterday, Chairman of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal also former Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav has said that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Interim Election Council chief Khil Raj Regmi and four major political parties have lost their credibility and public trust by appointing Lokman Singh Karki to the chief of Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA), according to nepalnews.com.

Chairman Yadav said that the appointment of a controversial and tainted figure like Karki to the coveted post was part of a conspiracy to end the integrity as well as existence of the anti-graft commission CIAA once and for all. Chairman Yadav also requested the President for immediately declaring the Karki’s appointment as null and void and replacing him with an uncontroversial individual with a clean image.

Stating that Karki should himself understand that he is not fit for the job, and in view of the widespread protests against his appointment across the country, Karki should not accept the appointment, said Chairman Yadav, if such controversial appointments were to continue to taint Nepali politics then the much-awaited election would not be held in November this year.

The alliance of 33 agitating parties including the Mohan Baidya's CPN-Maoist declared protest against the Karki's appointment. A meeting of the leaders of the 33 parties held at the CPN-Maoist central office at Buddanagar decided to launch protests including a nationwide shutdown of the nation, according to nepalnews.com.
