issue 46, November 13, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 10, 2011: quoting the information provided by the Indian official in Kathmandu on the approval of the Government of Nepal on signing a revised Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), Indian Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is visiting Kathmandu soon to sign the deal, ‘The Times of India’ writes today.

The DTAA was supposed to sign off during the visit of Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s visit to India but it did not happened due to the last time hitch, as both parties could not reach an agreement on the Article 30 of the proposed deal that has included some provisions of the 1987 DTAA.

The DTAA will encourage investors in both the countries thus create an environment conducive to investment on both the countries. The new deal will boost the free flow of trade and investment between the two countries. So, India has long been asking Nepal to sign the revised agreement for making Indian investors free from paying tax in both the countries, ‘The Times of India’ writes.
