Slumdog Millionaire: Eight Oscar Winner

The success of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in winning so many Oscars and being the best picture made the British happy, as it is a British movie at the 81st annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 22, 2009. It also made Indians happy, as most of the stars starring in the movie are Indians. This movie features the Mumbai slums and is based on a novel by Vikas Swarup, and a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy,

Composer AR Rahman won two Oscars for the best original score and best original song: Jai Ho with fellow Indian Gulzar and Resul Pookutty won another award for sound mixing of the rags-to-riches movie.

Child actress Rubina Ali and actor Azharuddin Ismail were both in Hollywood for the ceremony.

Director Danny Boyle won Oscar for the best director. Accepting the best director award, Mr. Boyle paid tribute to the people of Mumbai, and looking at his Oscar statuette said, “You dwarf even this guy.”
