The tourism entrepreneurs say that recently tourist arrival has increased significantly. The hotel bed occupancy has gone up to 80%. All tourist centers have been flooded with tourists. In Kathmandu, the hoteliers in Nagarkot say a large number of tourists have started visiting this scenic-viewing area from where they could see the world tallest mountain Everest. A lot of tourists stay overnight there to watch sunrise. Another scenic-area Pokhara has been flooded with tourists. However, a Nepalese press says that the tourist arrival by air has decreased.

Recently appointed Minister for Commerce and Supplies say that the supply of petroleum products would ease in a two-week time; he would stop the black-marketing of petroleum products by some unscrupulous traders; however, he said that the prices of petroleum products would not come down even after the drastic decrease in the price of oil in the international market, as the State-run Nepal Oil Corporation has been running in loss of Rs 400 million a month.

The Confederation of Nepalese Industries has wrapped up its three-day conference on ‘Double Digit Growth: A National Commitment’ with the conclusion of possibility of increasing the income of Nepalis from the current Rs 3,500 to Rs 12,000 (twelve thousands) per month within ten years if the government follows the correct economic, trade and other related policies. On this occasion, Finance Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said that the government would follow the policy on the public-private partnership for the fast economic development.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the three-day conference, Prime Minister Prachanda had said that Nepal has no choice but to follow the wave of globalization, liberalization and privatization; the government has to take the international community and Nepalis into its confidence.
