Status Of Nepal Improved Internationally

Issue 25, June 17, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 13, 2012: the UN has removed Nepal from its list of shame countries that recruit and use children, kill and maim, commit sexual violence or attack schools and hospitals. The UN included Nepal even though only the UCPN-Maoist was using minors during the conflict; the UN had started off the process of removing the party from the list following the conclusion of the discharge of disqualified Maoist combatants as minors in April 2010, nepalnews.com reports.

Another improvement of the status of Nepal is the Global Peace Index (GPI): a study on relative position of nations' and regions' peacefulness published by the US-based Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has put Nepal at the 80th position behind the 19th position of Bhutan in 2012. India at 142, Sri Lanka at 103, Bangladesh at 91 and Pakistan at 149 are all behind Nepal, according to the news on nepalnews.com.
