Students’ Rally At Police Hospital
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On December 8, 2009, women students of Padma Kanya Campus and women activists have staged a rally at the police hospital, Maharajgun Kathmandu protesting against the group of policemen raping the policewoman (Suntali Dhami) at the Accham police station in the far western Nepal some months ago, and against the police keeping her in the police hospital in Kathmandu virtually in custody in the name of giving her medical treatment. The police have arrested some students and women activists for rallying at the hospital.
Victim of the gang rape Suntali Dhami has said that the police have kept her in the police custody at the hospital and the police have threatened her to take actions if she speaks in the public functions about the rape case repeatedly according to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of December 9, 2009.
Home Minister Bhim Rawal has the soul of the dead Panchayati Home Minister, and wants to bully the victim rather than taking actions against the culprits. So, Home Minister has shown his real character of not taking actions against the policemen responsible for raping their woman colleague, and not taking actions against the State Minister Karima Begam for slapping the Chief District Officer. Time will soon come that the people will slap the Home Minister for his crime of not taking actions against the criminals for their public offences. Recently, he has killed several unarmed people in the Kailali district in the name of ejecting the landless people staying on in the fallow land.
On December 2, 2009, answering to the questions of the members of the Constitutional Committee on Women and Children has said that he is seriously taking actions against the police gang rapists but his real actions have just been the opposite.
