By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On January 3, 2010, the Supreme Court of Nepal has issued a stay order to the Government of Nepal concerning the case of the promotion of the tainted General Toran Jung Bahadur Singh indicted for the enforced disappearance of 49 people while he was the commander of the Bhairavnath Battalion. The apex court has asked the government for the justification for promoting the general, for not enforcing the promotion and for being present at the hearing on the case on January 10, 2010.

On December 24, 2009, the government of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has promoted Toran Jung Bahadur Singh to Lieutenant General and Second-in-Command of the Nepal Army despite the national and international human rights organization, and the international community in Nepal have been totally against the promotion of the general accused of the human rights violation. The current government of Madhav Nepal has continued the tradition of the despotic rulers of Nepal of promoting murders and killers to the highest ranks.
