Talks Between Kamalaris And Government Positive

June 7, 2013: the talks held between the representatives of the Kamalari System Elimination Agitation Committee and the government at the office of Ministry of Social Welfare in Kathmandu yesterday have shown positive results after the government has agreed on declaring freed Kamalaris as the freed Kamaiyas, and provide them with the benefits as provided to the Kamaiyas, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

If everything goes as stated in the news, both the Kamalaris and the government might reach an agreement at the talks to be held today. Then, they would call off the indefinite shutdown of the 22 district of terai, and release the millions of people from the status of hostage.

 

One of the representatives of the Kamalari System Elimination Agitation Committee Phakala Tharu has said that the government has agreed on reinvestigating the murder of Srijana Chaudhary, and providing one million rupees to the family of the victim; so, they might soon reach an agreement, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

Various district political parties have expressed their solidarity with the former Kamalaris for their movement called “Save Girl Child” in Western Nepal. The political leaders have supported the movement of Kamalaris who have been staging various protests in the capital and different districts across the country, demanding probe into the death of a Kamalari girl: Srijana Chaudhary. The political leaders of the district have participated in the protest programs and have demanded with the state to provide justice to the victim’s party and for the complete eradication of Kamalari system. The leaders of UCPN-Maoist, CPN-Maoist, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-democratic, Terai Madhesh Democratic Party, CPN-United, Rastriya Janamorcha, Sanghiya Samajbadi party, Tharuhat Terai party, Sadbhawana Party (Mahato) and other political parties have participated in the movement yesterday, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
