BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On April 23, 2009, thirteen soldiers of the Nepal Army died in the bushfire at the community forest in the ward number eight of the Ramechap Village Development Area near the old district headquarters. They were trying to stop the bushfire from approaching to the District Hospital. Suddenly, the bushfire engulfed them as the thick cover of the dry leaves caught fire. The District Hospital was evacuated, as the bushfire could not be brought under control.

Defense Minister Badal visited the area immediately and took the notes of the bushfire and the death of soldiers according to the Chief District Officer.

In a statement, the Public Relation Directorate of the Nepal Army stated that thirteen soldiers lost their lives in course of attempting to fight the bushfire. They were burnt to death after the dry leaves caught fire.

Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal and Spokesperson for UCPN-Maoist Dinanath Sharma wished for a lasting peace of the souls of the thirteen dead soldiers and sent heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
