Issue 32, August 5, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 30, 2012: after the appointment of Lila Mani Poudel to the position of the Chief Secretary: highest position in the civil administration in Nepal, three potential candidates for the same office quit their respective office in protest of their junior Poduel getting the position bypassing them.

Secretary to Election Commission Shankar Koirala, Secretary to Home Ministry Sushil Jung Bahadur Rana and Secretary to Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers (legal affairs) Dr Trilochan Upreti quit from their respective office in protest.

They have individually tendered their resignations to the prime minister complaining the appointment of the chief secretary passing over them breached the norms and values of appointing any person to the office of Chief Secretary.

These officials quitting the offices in protest of the appointment of their junior to the senior most position in the civil administration had done nothing unique, as their term of office was soon to be ended. So, tendering their resignations they had not lost anything significantly.
