Two prices of diesel in the Valley
By Kathmandu Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has set the prices of diesel: one for the public transporters at RS 70 per liter and another for other consumers at Rs 80 per liter in the Kathmandu Valley in an experimental basis according to the news posted on Kantipuronline.com on August 12, 2008. This reduces per liter loss in diesel to Rs 15 from the current Rs 25 plus on the sale of diesel to consumers other than public transporters. According to the estimate of the NOC, commercial buyers and diplomatic missions consume 30 percent of total supply at higher rates once the scheme is extended throughout the country. Then the NOC's loss from the sale of diesel reduces to Rs 660 million a month from the current Rs 750 million. NOC officials said that they would set the new prices of petroleum products after they received the new import prices from the Indian supplier on August 16.
