UN Under Secretary General Ms Kane in Nepal For A Weeklong Visit

January 6, 2014: UN Under-Secretary-General also the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Ms Angela Kane arrived in Kathmandu late night on January 4, 2014 on a weeklong visit to Nepal, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhaaptraonline.com’.
During her stay in Nepal, the UN Under-Secretary-General is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Chairman of Council of Ministers also holding the portfolio of Minister for Defense Khil Raj Regmi and Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Deepak Dhital said.
During the meetings with UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Nepal is expected to focus on the weapons of mass destruction including atomic, nuclear, chemical and biological as well as transferring the millions of rupees from the military expenses to the poverty alleviation and development areas, Spokesperson Dhital said.
Nepal is a signatory of the Arms Trade Treaty; and it will present its views about peace, education and for the effective functioning of United Nations Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament (UNRCPD) in Asia and the Pacific based in Kathmandu.
