UNMIN Chief Karen Landgren Meets Nepalese Leaders

On October 25, 2009, United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Chief Karen Landgren has met with Chairman of United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) Prachanda, and Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) Jhalanath Khanal. They discussed various matters such as integration of the Maoists’ combatants with the Nepal Army, discharge of ineligible combatants and the peace process. UNMIN Chief Karen Landgren is leaving Nepal for New York to brief the United Nations Security Council on the progress made in the peace process in Nepal on Monday, October 26, 2009. She has also met with Prime Minister Madhav Nepal a few days ago. During the meeting with the Prime Minster she has shown her concern for the provocative remarks made by his Defense Minister on the need for reviewing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement the Government of Nepal has reached with the Maoists.
