US Envoy Meets With Nepalese Leaders
By KTM Metro Reporter
October 28, 2010: US Ambassador to Nepal Scott H DeLisi has met with Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda today to discuss the current political deadlock caused by never ending elections to a new Prime Minister, writing of a new constitution and peace process that have been going very slowly in Nepal. At the meeting with Prachanda, the envoy has shown his concern over the need for breaking the current political deadlock, completing the peace process and writing a new constitution.
The US envoy has met with NC President Sushil Koirala and has shown the same concerns with him, too. President Koirala in turn has complained about some leaders of other political parties not cooperating on breaking the political deadlock. However, he has failed in mentioning his stance on not pulling out his party’s prime ministerial candidate from the never-ending election that has stalled all political businesses of forming a new government.
The US envoy has also met with the Prime Minister and assured him of continuing the US support for the peace process even after the UNMIN leaves Nepal in January 2011. Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said today that he is not for keeping the UNMIN any more. Vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattrai has said several times that if the UNMIN leaves Nepal without completing the peace process there is the possibility of resumption of conflict.
