Watching ‘Bhoto’ Jatra In Javalakhel

June 28, 2011: First President of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, and Vice-president Permananda Jha, and Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal watched the ‘Bhito’ Jatra today, and received blessings from Lord Macchendranath, Living Goddess Kumari and Lord Minanath.
President Yadav has arrived at Javalakhel at 5:15 evening to watch the ‘Bhoto’ Jatra. Officials of Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City received the president. Then, the chief priest offered the items blessed by Lord Macchendranath to the president, vice-president and the prime minister. Thereafter, another priest offered the items blessed by Living Goddess Kumari to all the three dignitaries.
Then, the official of the state-run ‘Guthi Samsthan’ broke the seal on a silk bag and took out the vest called ‘bhoto’ studded with jewels in presence of the priests and other attendants to the lord, in fact on camera. The official first demonstrated the ‘bhoto; to Lord Macchendranath, then the Living Goddess Kumari, and then the president, vice-president and the prime minister. Thereafter, the official demonstrated it to the public starting from the right corner of the chariot, then moving on the clockwise direction and standing at the next corner, the official demonstrated the ‘bhoto’ to the public. Thus, the official demonstrated it from the four corners of the chariot to the public.
The official again demonstrated the ‘bhoto’ to Lord Macchendranath, then to the Living Goddess Kumari, then the president, vice-president and the prime minister. Then the official demonstrated it to the public from the four corners of the chariot. The official repeated this process three times.
Then the official put the ‘bhoto’ back in the silk bag and sealed it after securely tying it by strong strings. The official turned it over to one of the attendants to Lord Macchendranath for keeping it safely for a year.
Then, the president made offerings to Lord Macchendranath, and then to the Living Goddess Kumari and received blessing from the hands of the Living Goddess Kumari, and then made offerings to Lord Minanath. Vice-president and the prime minister also followed the process of making offerings to the three deities as the president did before going back to their respective residence.
After competing the ‘Bhoto’ Jatra, attendants took Lord Macchendranath on a portable chariot carried on shoulder poles to Bungamti for the summer stay. The deity returns to Lalitpur for the winter stay.
