Winter Session Of House Ends

Issue 09, February 26, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 22, 2012: the 10th House session that had elected Dr. Baburam Bhattarai to the office of prime minister ends its session after the prime minister has recommended the president to do so.  The winter session of the House started on May 2, 2011.

Reading out the letter from the President, House Speaker Subhas Nembang announced the end of the winter session of the House without passing the three most important bills on anti-money laundering, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has secured two-month time for passing the three bills on anti-money laundering after the international committee has set to blacklist Nepal for not passing the bills. Blacklisting Nepal would mean havoc in business, as the international banking system would not recognize the Nepalese banking system.

Following the normal procedures of the House, any bill takes at least two months to pass. So, the House might not stay long in recess if the government is serious to pass those bills on anti-money laundering to save Nepal from blacklisting by the international agency.

The Vaidya group of the Prime Minister’s party had blocked the House session protesting against the three bills on anti-money laundering stating those bills against the national interest and imposed by the imperialists. However, the opposition NC leaders have been willing to cooperate with the government on passing those bills.
